Moving, Handling, Training & Safe Work Procedures in the NDIS

Come learn about safe moving and handling intervention for you and your clients.

About the Workshop

The goal of a moving and handling intervention is to ensure the client and worker are safe, the routine is as efficient as it can be and it delivers a quality care routine for the client. Whilst this can involve recommendations of equipment, changes to the environment & changes the task, the last stage is to provide guidance to clients & their carers, on how the routine should take place after our intervention is finished. This can involve training and development of safe work procedures.

This workshop will explore training and safe work procedures under the NDIS:

  • Our role as OTs in a moving and handling intervention.
  • How the NDIS has changed the landscape.
  • The legislative requirement under the Work Health and Safety Act (using NSW as an example) for training and safe work procedures.
  • The possible line between what is the responsibility of the provider in terms of training and is the responsibility of the client.
  • The key elements of training of a worker – what do they need to know.
  • The key elements of a safe work procedures to make it a practical usable document in the home environment.
