Navigating SDA functional assessments & report writing

Enhance your expertise in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) with our focused workshop designed for occupational therapists working within the NDIS. This comprehensive training aims to equip OTs with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively evidence eligibility for SDA, ensuring high-quality outcomes for clients seeking this crucial support.

The workshop begins with an in-depth overview of the SDA rules and eligibility criteria, providing a solid foundation for understanding how participants qualify for this type of support. Attendees will explore the different types of SDA available and the specific funding mechanisms under the NDIS, ensuring a comprehensive grasp of the accommodation options and financial considerations involved.

Participants will also learn about the latest updates and guidelines pertaining to SDA, keeping their practice current and aligned with the most recent standards and requirements. This segment will highlight any recent changes in policy or procedure, ensuring that attendees are well-informed and prepared to navigate the evolving landscape of SDA.

A significant focus of the workshop will be on the OT’s role in assessing and reporting for SDA funding. Attendees will delve into the assessment requirements, understanding how to conduct thorough and accurate evaluations that meet the NDIS criteria. This includes identifying the functional needs and housing goals of clients, as well as understanding how to document these needs effectively.

The workshop will provide practical guidance on report writing techniques tailored specifically for occupational therapists. Participants will learn how to craft detailed, evidence-based reports that clearly demonstrate a client's eligibility for SDA. Emphasis will be placed on articulating the client’s needs, the impact of their disability on daily living, and the rationale for SDA funding in a structured and compelling manner.

Case studies and real-world examples will be used to illustrate best practices in SDA assessment and reporting. These examples will offer practical insights into the challenges and solutions encountered in the field, allowing attendees to learn from successful cases and apply these lessons to their own practice.

This was genuinely one of the best CPD courses I have done. It hit just the right level for me as an OT with experience in FCA but new to housing/SDA Assessments. Jane was engaging and informative. Thank you!

Jane Galvin was simply awesome. Thank you for making her knowledge accessible through your courses. Congratulations. I look forward to my next Verve OT course!
