In this workshop, you will gain practical knowledge and tools to:

• Understand the principles of safe moving and handling within NDIS service delivery
• Differentiate between necessary and unnecessary moving and handling and apply this concept to everyday care routines
• Recognise common moving and handling risks affecting both participants and support workers
• Apply a structured approach to assessing moving and handling tasks, considering participant function, environment, equipment and support requirements
• Develop practical Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) that promote consistency, safety and quality of care
• Understand the role of Occupational Therapists in reducing manual handling risk through Assistive Technology, environmental modification and task redesign
• Explore legal and professional responsibilities under Work Health and Safety legislation and duty of care
• Identify appropriate moving and handling equipment and strategies to support safe transfers, positioning and personal care
• Understand competency based moving and handling training and how SWPs support ongoing education and quality improvement
• Apply clinical reasoning to balance participant independence, dignity, safety and workforce wellbeing
  

Please note: This is an introductory workshop focused on the foundations of safe moving and handling practice. It does not provide practical competency training in specific techniques such as sling application, hoist transfers, rolling or complex positioning. Further practical training is essential before independently prescribing manual handling equipment, developing comprehensive Moving and Handling Plans or providing competency-based carer training.
