What, Who & Why?

AI is already changing the way Occupational Therapists work, from documentation and report writing to therapy planning, communication and accessing evidence. But knowing how to use it well, safely and appropriately can still feel confusing.

This practical two-hour workshop will help Occupational Therapists make sense of AI, explore where it can genuinely add value in everyday practice, and understand the professional responsibilities that come with using it.

Rather than focusing on individual tools or overwhelming you with technical detail, the session brings together practical AI capability, clinical judgement, privacy, consent and governance so you can make more confident decisions about when, and how, to use AI in your work.

This workshop brings together and updates content from Jess’s previous Verve OT Learning sessions on introductory AI and AI privacy/security, reflecting current practice, guidance and real-world use of AI in allied health.

What will you learn?

In this practical workshop, you will learn how to:

• Understand the fundamentals of generative AI, including what it does well, where it can go wrong, and why human oversight still matters.
• Use AI more effectively for common OT tasks including documentation, report writing, communication, therapy planning and accessing evidence.
• Write clearer, more useful prompts and critically review AI-generated outputs before using them in practice.
• Recognise key risks including privacy, confidentiality, inaccurate information, bias and over-reliance.
• Understand how consent, transparency and professional responsibility apply when AI is used in client care.
• Make more confident decisions about when and how AI can be used safely and appropriately in everyday OT practice.

This workshop is designed for Occupational Therapists who are using, exploring or considering AI in their practice.

It will be particularly useful for:

• Occupational Therapists new to AI – build a practical understanding of how AI works, where it can help and what to be mindful of.
• Occupational Therapists already using AI – strengthen prompting, critical review and integration into everyday workflows.
• Practice owners and team leaders – better understand consent, privacy, governance and professional responsibility when introducing AI into practice.
• Teams wanting a shared approach – build a more consistent understanding of how AI can be used safely, appropriately and effectively.
