  • Apply a structured OT process to assess risk, investigate causes and develop both short term and long term strategies
  • Identify common seating and positioning issues that increase risk such as poor pelvic positioning and high pressure under bony prominences
  • Understand cushion design including materials, immersion, envelopment and offloading
  • Select appropriate cushion options based on level of pressure risk from low through to complex presentations
  • Develop clear clinical reasoning to justify cushion selection and support safe and effective outcomes

About the Presenter

 Karen Maurer has over 25 years’ experience working as an OT, including many years as a senior clinician with a special interest in assistive technology for adults. She runs Capable Spaces, a private practice supporting clients with neurological conditions/ SCI/ TBI to live with dignity and empowerment, by maximising their independence in everyday life.
