Emotional Mastery and Empathy

Workshop Duration:
 2 hours

Cost: $120.00

Are you an OT who feels like you’re constantly managing everyone else’s emotions but not always your own?

Are you trying to “stay professional” in challenging situations, but internally feel reactive or depleted?

Emotional regulation isn’t just a client skill; it’s a core professional skill for OTs.

This workshop goes beyond surface-level strategies and helps you understand how emotions actually work, so you can manage them more effectively in both your personal and professional life.

What will you learn?

This workshop introduces a modern, evidence-informed understanding of emotions and how to work with them, rather than against them.

You’ll learn how emotions are created, why they can feel so intense, and what you can actually do in the moment to respond more effectively.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Understand how emotions are formed and why they are not directly controllable
  • Recognise the concept of a “body budget” and how it impacts mood, stress, and performance
  • Identify factors that drain or support your emotional capacity
  • Apply practical strategies to regulate emotions in real time
  • Develop greater awareness of your emotional responses and triggers
  • Shift unhelpful thinking patterns and “stories” that drive emotional reactions
  • Respond to difficult emotions with curiosity rather than avoidance
  • Take values-based action even when emotions are uncomfortable
  • Teach emotional regulation strategies to your clients

Who is this workshop for?

This training is designed for:

  • Occupational Therapists working in emotionally demanding environments
  • Clinicians experiencing stress, overwhelm, or early signs of burnout
  • OTs supporting clients with emotional regulation needs
  • Practice owners wanting to support team wellbeing and performance

Why this matters for OTs? As an OT, your ability to regulate your own emotional responses directly impacts:

  • Clinical reasoning and decision-making
  • Therapeutic relationships
  • Communication with clients, families, and stakeholders
  • Burnout risk and long-term sustainability in practice

Emotional regulation isn’t about eliminating difficult emotions. It’s about working with them effectively so they don’t drive your behaviour or decision-making

Why attend?
Attending this workshop will help you:

  • Feel more in control of your emotional responses at work
  • Reduce emotional exhaustion and burnout risk
  • Improve clarity and consistency in clinical decision-making
  • Strengthen therapeutic relationships
